Community project: Dream Arts
Dream Arts run workshops every Saturday for 8-19 year olds to work with leading professionals to develop creative skills, help prepare for auditions, get advice, take part in shows, express themselves and enjoy.

Dream Arts Saturday runs in partnership with Pimlico Academy in South Westminster and provides a diverse weekly programme, that includes dance, acting and singing, plus regular masterclass sessions and City Voices, Westminster's youth signing group.

They require support in the following areas:
  • Administration support outside of the workshops,
  • Support during the weekly workshops,
  • Support with Marketing & Publicity.
This opportunity is for 2 to 4 volunteers and can be tailored to suit the skill-set and time available depending upon the volunteer.

Community project: SWAN Steering Group Members


The South Westminster Action Network (SWAN) aims to improve services for residents living in the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods of SW1. It brings key agencies and residents together to tackle local issues and provide more services and opportunities for residents most in need. They provide a range of community based projects, from fitness, well-being, lifelong learning to an over-60's club and activities for children. SWAN is in a transition phase from the grant funded South Westminster Renewal Partnership to becoming a self-sustaining social enterprise operating from within the governance of the Abbey Community Centre.

SWAN is in a transition phase from the grant funded South Westminster Renewal Partnership to becoming a self-sustaining social enterprise operating from within the governance of the Abbey Community Centre. SWAN already provides the following:

A range of networks (Neighbourhood, Health, Housing, Learning & Employability and Youth) bringing together local residents and providers to join up services and address gaps in provision,

Opportunities for residents to get involved and have their say. SW1 Community Forum Lunches and Neighbourhood Champions scheme (Currently 350 residents signed up),

Their neighbourhood communication channels include:

        a. SW1 – community newsletter to 17,500 households.
        b. Community website
        c. Neighbourhood Consultation – through local champions and the wider community.

SWAN is currently seeking representatives from the business sector to become members of the Steering Group and to help direct SWAN through this transition phase. SWAN’s Steering Group is a multi-disciplinary group that meets quarterly and directs and oversees renewal activities across south Westminster.

Schedule

Quarterly meetings and support as required, during daytime weekdays.

Community project: Churchill Gardens Residents Association

Churchill Gardens Resident’s Hall, at the heart of the Pimlico community is undergoing improvements and is due to receive brand new furniture, including tables and chairs. The group need assistance with moving all the old furniture out of the hall and moving the new furniture into the hall. The new tables will need assembling.

OPPORTUNITIES [Enquiry Form]

Arrangements will have to be made directly with Sue Walsh, Chair of the Residents Association.


Schedule

It is anticipated that this will need to take place towards the end of October or early November.
Approximately a half day to 1 full day depending on numbers. It is estimated they will need 10-20 people.

Community project: St Matthews Play Centre

The St Matthews Play Centre provides educational activities for children aged 4-11 years during the week from 3.30pm- 5.30pm.

OPPORTUNITIES [Enquiry Form]

They are seeking 1-2 volunteers per day to support their reading group and homework club. They will like working with children and feel that they would be able to offer homework and reading support. 

Schedule

Between 3.30 - 5.30pm Monday to Friday for as long as people want to.

Community project: South West Fest

South West Fest is an annual community festival in SW1, providing a free 2 week long programme of events and one huge festival day in a local square, for people who live and work locally.

OPPORTUNITIES [Enquiry Form]

Planning is now underway for South West Fest 2012 and the organisers are seeking individuals who are interested in becoming a Trustee. In particular, they are seeking volunteers with skills/knowledge in marketing, fundraising or IT. Volunteers are also needed throughout the year, and particularly in festival fortnight (June/July 2012).

This opportunity is for 1 to 3 volunteers.

Schedule

Board of Trustees meet once every 6 weeks, otherwise schedule is dependent upon on which aspect the volunteer is supporting.
