Days Out
Brighton on the south coast is a fun city with a fashionable mix of high street and one-off shops, inexpensive places to eat and a vibrant nightlife and gay scene. Only 60 minutes with a regular service from Victoria London mainline train station. When the weather allows, you can sun yourself on the beach or stroll down the promenade. During poor weather there is still plenty to see and do, all the usual pursuits of a British resort can be had on the Pier and a taste of Regency excess at the Brighton Pavilion. Guildford in Surrey is only 40 minutes on the train. A historic county town Guildford is an attractive place to visit. Surrey itself is steeped in history with beautifully lush scenery of small market towns and villages with cobbled streets, twisting lanes, timber-framed buildings, castles and ruins. Find a space on the train and take your bicycle to take full advantage of the country lanes and bridal paths.
The Orient Express also leaves from London Victoria. Departing at 7.30pm and returning at 11pm, it’s the ultimate in romantic evening dining on the move, capturing the remnant atmosphere of a bygone era. Oxford London has a regular shuttle bus run from Victoria Coach Station. It only takes 50 minutes to get to this attractive and ancient university city. Home to one of the oldest universities in the English-speaking world – the picturesque college buildings form the historic backdrop to what is a dynamic city with cutting edge research facilities and service industries.
Victoria Coach station also runs Cathedral Day Tours to cities like Canterbury and typical English seaside resorts like Whitstable, famous for its oysters and Herne Bay with its charming beach huts on the North Kent Coast. Coaches also go to destinations slightly further afield like Shakespeare’s Stratford on Avon and the Cotswolds.
